Mission

The mission of the NPCBEERM is to make built environment of the country safe against earthquake risks.

Ultimate aim of the programme will be sustainable earthquake risk reduction in the country. The programme will be able to provide following outputs in achieving this goal:

  • Capacity building of the State Resource Institutes (SRIs) would result in training of PWD/Municipal Engineers as well as engineers practicing in the private sector and also provide an opportunity to train students of regular Civil engineering and Architecture courses conducted by these Institutes.
  • Establishment of Hazard Safety Cells in each State/UT will ensure compliance to building byelaws and safe construction practices.
  • The building byelaws of the urban local bodies in vulnerable zones would be amended to include BIS codes for seismic safe construction
