1. National Environment Forest and Climate Disaster Management Plan (NEFC-DMP).

NIDM is facilitating the preparation of National Environment Forest and Climate Disaster Management Plan for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) utilizing the legal mandate under the Disaster Management Act 2005 and the National DM Policy 2009.

Key Objectives of the Project:

  • To ensure the protection of infrastructure, assets, property and resources under the Ministry and its Departments/establishments from disasters and extreme events,
  • To ensure the activities (including physical development and systematic practices/operations) do not aggravate hazards risks and vulnerabilities for disasters,
  • To ensure that the activities/programmes and schemes under the Ministry/sector increase resilience against the risk of disasters and extreme events and
  • To ensure that the Ministry and associated sector and constituents at all levels are prepared to deal with the situations arising out of any disaster or emergencies.
2. National Disaster Management Plan of Ministry of Ayush, GoI (AYUSH- DMP).

The AYUSH-DMP project of Ministry of Ayush, GOI is an important initiative being implemented by NIDM through its ERMD.

Key Objectives of the Project:

  • The project represents a significant step forward in enhancing the disaster preparedness of the Ministry of Ayush and NIDM remains committed to ensuring its success.
3. National Chemicals and Petrochemicals Disaster Management Plan (NCPC-DMP).

The frequency and severity of chemical and petrochemical hazards have increased in recent years due to the rapid development of the chemical and petrochemical industries. The NIDM through ECDRM division is facilitating the preparation of the "National Chemicals and Petrochemicals Disaster Management Plan (NCPC- DMP)" for the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F), Government of India, with the aim to strengthen the resilience of chemicals and petrochemicals sector of India to deal with disasters and weather uncertainties.

Key Objectives of the Project:

  • To ensure the protection of infrastructure, assets, property and resources under the departments/establishments from disasters and extreme events
  • To ensure the activities (including physical development and systematic practices/operations) do not aggravate hazards risks and vulnerabilities for disasters
  • To ensure that the activities/programmes and schemes increase resilience against risk of disasters and extreme events and
  • To ensure the department and associated sector and constituents at all levels are prepared to deal with the situations arising out of any disaster or emergency situation.
4. Climate Adaptive Planning for Resilience and Sustainable Development in Multi-Hazard Environment (CAP-RES).

The project aims at developing and implementing capacity building including a knowledge and training support system for wider use by related institutions and training centres across sectors and regions specifically in Indian Himalaya Region (special reference to North-East), Coastal region and Centralwestern region. There are 5 key themes of the project: (a) Green growth and disaster risk reduction; (b) Resilient agriculture system; (c) Public health resilience; (d) Climate proofing disaster relief and recovery; and (e) Environmental policy instrument in disaster risk reduction.

Key Objectives of the Project:

  • To analyze science policy-planning-practice interface regarding extreme events and climate risk management for disaster resilience;
  • To assess knowledge and capacity gaps;
  • To document and compile case studies and best practices in the form of a knowledge compendium;
  • To address the gaps and challenges; policy analysis and advocacy for integrating disaster risk management with climate actions and vice versa, through knowledge sharing platforms, policy briefs, approach papers and articles;
  • To develop toolkits for training capacity building including training strategies and designs, training modules, instruction manual, reference readings, using the outcome of capacity gap analysis and knowledge-based compendium;
  • To enhance the capacity in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude of the key professionals including policy makers, trainers and researchers, through specialized training programmes.
5. NIDM - World Food Programme (WFP) Project on "Food and Nutrition Needs in emergencies: Integration in Emergency Relief, Response and Preparedness Strategies in India".

NIDM and WFP identified the importance of inter-linkages between natural disasters and food and nutrition security and agreed that NIDM and WFP shall collaborate to develop the guidelines and training package for "food and nutrition strategies for emergencies, preparedness and response" and take the recommendations forward to explore the ways and means to mainstream the food and nutrition security agenda in India's disaster management response.

This will be achieved in three phases; the first phase will undertake gap analysis and development of guidelines and curriculum to the last phase culminating in operationalization and exploring the Southsouth cooperation opportunities. The three phases will aim at identifying the gaps in current Strategies in India with respect to global best practices, standard and frameworks, developing guidelines and contribute to capacity strengthening in India and potential scale-up in the region under south-south cooperation.

The phases are described below:

  • Phase I: Development of national guidelines and training curriculum for integration of food and nutrition strategies in EPR package of India.
  • Phase II: Supporting capacity strengthening and training for food and nutrition needs in Emergencies.
  • Phase III: Organization of an international level consultation on Food and Nutrition in Emergency Preparedness and Response for benefit of the other countries.
6. Enabling Cities on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Sustainable Urban Development.

NIDM and GIZ has signed grant agreement under Sustainable Urban Development Smart Cities-II (SUDSC-II) project for implementing a project on "Enabling Cities on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Sustainable Urban Development" whose time period is from March 2023 to August 2024.

Key Objectives of the Project:

  • Mainstream disaster risk reduction in city planning process.
  • Prepare a road map/guidelines for making cities resilient to climate induced disasters (viz., floods, cyclones, fires, etc.) based on national and international frameworks (viz., Sendai framework).
  • Facilitate and collaborate knowledge exchange and research through peer networks and knowledge exchange forums.
7. Preparation of National Disaster Management Plan for the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DMP-DFPD), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India:

Duration of the project is for one year i.e., from May 2024 – April 2025. As outlined in the project proposal, the scope of work includes the preparation of a Disaster Management Plan for DFPD and the development of a Training Manual.
